You can see a lot just by looking. The fiber cable was down yesterday right by where the original problem occurred on March 20-26.

One might ask why the fiber cable came down but the cables carrying electricity, cable TV and conventional telephony stayed up.

The marking says, “Sumitomo Optical Cable, Jan 2005, 144 Fiber.” A nearby marking, not shown, says, “19068 feet.” From where? The splitter is right around the corner.

Here’s a clue. The overlash came unlashed.

Here’s another clue. A bare, wide-open fiber cable in mid-span. Didn’t anybody tell the CX&M crew that fiber is a 30 year asset?
