St. Maarten to Woods Hole 2011

On June 3, 2011, Bob Morris (Captain/Owner), Roger Merrill and David Isenberg set sail from St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, in Apogee, a Valiant 40, for Woods Hole, Massachusetts, about 1400 nautical miles. The weather was so calm and we motored so much that we called in Hamilton, Bermuda for about 12 hours on June 12 to refuel and reprovision. After Bermuda, the wind velocity improved, and despite about 36 hours of northerlies, we cleared customs in Fairhaven and arrived in Woods Hole on June 18, sailing into the Eel Pond on the 8:30 PM bridge opening.

Apogee, whose home port is Woods Hole, had been gone for just over four years. It had visited Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain, Portugal, the Canaries, the Azores, Barbados and several windward and leward islands before arriving in St. Maarten.
