The Free Market for Flu Shots
BocaNews.com says:
"One man in the flu shot line Monday at Publix in the Garden Shops at Boca told a tale of trying to pay a doctor to get a flu shot for his mother. βI offered the doctor $1,000,β the man, who did not want his name used, said. βHe called me back and told me he would do it for $2,500. I asked him if he was crazy.βAt 36,000 deaths a year the risk of no flu shot is approximately the risk of taking a few drinks and driving too fast without a seat belt.
Comments:
I mentioned a Seattle area news report that Canada is apparently willing to give flu shots to visitors (sound policy, that!) An overnight flight to Canada to get a flu shot (administered in the airport) and a night in a nice hotel near the airport will run a lot less than $1,000... let alone $2,500.
