Bat-Girl pitches for Network Neutrality!

Anne Ursu, who keeps Bat-Girl, a popular baseball blog, recently wrote:
[Bat-Girl] never talks about politics here, because politics divides us and Joe Mauer unites us. [She's a Twins fan.] But today is an exception, because the very survival of this blog and others like it are at stake. Basically, the telecom companies are lobbying Congress to dissolve internet neutrality—the principle that no one but the users can choose what sites they visit. Right now, your ISP can't choose only to provide access to some sites, nor can they charge sites for providing access. But that could change . . . [snip]

The issue has attracted dozens of supportive comments from shocked baseball fans. It also attracted a Hands-Off-The-Internet troll named Wilson, who writes:
The "back road" would be the tier of the internet we know today . . . There will be a premium tier to ensure that emergency services, VOIP, and video downloads are faster and unaffected by high volume of traffic.

Lessee, last I checked VOIP and video downloads worked just fine. So they'd continue to work just fine tomorrow, on "the tier of the Internet we know today"????? OK, then what's Ed Whitacre trying to sell?

With delightful frankness, Wilson continues:
What the telecos want is to . . . be able to recoup the billions they will spend on these upgrades . . .
And he says:
Shaw isn't downgrading Vonage, they built there own private network and anyone who wants can pay to use it.

Wilson keeps repeating the telco line, that the telcos won't impair or degrade anybody. On the other hand, he says that Shaw's "QOS" charge doesn't downgrade non-payers.

Most Bat-Girl commentors have their right thumb raised at Wilson -- he's out! (He doesn't seem interested in baseball at all!)

It's great to see avid baseball fans supporting Network Neutrality. [Link]
