Did strong intellectual property rules protect Whitney Houston?

The headlines are all, Wanna Get Into Whitney Houston's Pants? and Own a Piece of Whitney, as the press reports that Whitney Houston is being forced to auction a bunch of gear to pay a $200,000 debt. They're dredging lurid details about drugs and divorce. What they're not saying is that she sold 140,000,000 records, starred in a couple of movies, she's a household name, a part of our culture and probably made a bunch of recordco execs rich. Tell me again, please, how strong intellectual property rules protect the artist . . .
