Quote of Note: Debby Cwalina

"They think copyright means 'mean people'."

Debbie Cwalina, Girl Scout, explaining how Girl Scouts see ASCAP, since the Scouts can't afford to license ASCAP songs at summer camp.

UPDATE: <blush> A comment by Bob, below, points out that this story is datelined 1996. I missed this little fact completely. Wonder how the Girl Scouts and ASCAP are getting along these days. </blush>

It was interesting to note that the copyright date (!) on the stories you linked to was 1996. In the interest of "fair and balanced" that means both that this is not a current issue (that is, the Girl Scout camps are not currently threatened), and that it's been a continuing battle for at least 13 years...

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the h/t, and regret that you missed the date on the stories. Twitter doesn't allow for much context.

I have been attending http://symposium09.aotearoadigitalarts.org.nz/ and twittered that link during the copyright workshop.

I used to read your SMART newsletter and, when I saw this story in the FT, wanted to get your opinion:

I believe the article alludes to the DNSSEC issue without naming it outright. What are your thoughts on DNSSEC and Beckstrom?
