David, your paper about the "stupid" network was well written, but the premise was incorrect. Networks must be smart. If they don't, they are not reliable or robust and cannot resist attack. Early in the Net's evolution, we can be forgiven for not knowing this, but 12 years later we understand it. Nowadays, the only parties who are interested in keeping the network "dumb" are corporations which hope to exploit that "dumbness" (e.g. Google).

. Also, I think Brett misses the point. Networks need to be smart about routing and error handling but dumb about content (privacy issues among other things).
